T-Mobile Hometown Grant

In 2023, Colville Together was awarded a $50,000 T-Mobile Hometown Grant to support the Heritage Court Renaissance Project. This significant investment helped transform Heritage Court into a more welcoming, functional, and vibrant public gathering space in downtown Colville. Grant funding was used to purchase several key amenities and placemaking features, including the large community Christmas tree that anchors holiday celebrations, oversized shade umbrellas, the iconic Greetings from Colville mural by artist Chris Bovey, and free public Wi-Fi available throughout the space.

These improvements were designed to encourage year-round use of Heritage Court while creating a destination that supports community events, local businesses, visitors, and residents alike. By combining public art, comfort, connectivity, and seasonal attractions, the project has helped establish Heritage Court as a true community gathering place and a focal point of downtown revitalization efforts.

This investment demonstrates how strategic placemaking can strengthen community connections, enhance the visitor experience, and contribute to a thriving downtown economy.

Place Activation Grant & Community Furnishing

The black tables & chairs, and benches found throughout Heritage Court have their own story. These furnishings were originally obtained through a Washington State Main Street Place Activation Technical Assistance Grant. First used as temporary parklets and sidewalk cafés throughout downtown during COVID, the furnishings were later relocated and repurposed for Heritage Court, allowing the investment to continue serving the community while creating flexible and welcoming public seating. This project demonstrates Colville Together’s commitment to making the most of available resources while encouraging people to gather and enjoy downtown public spaces.

Award-Winning Community Space

In 2024, Heritage Court was recognized statewide when Colville Together received the Places for People Award at the Washington State Main Street Program’s Excellence on Main Awards. The award honors projects that create inclusive spaces and encourage year-round community engagement.

The recognition highlighted Heritage Court’s transformation into a vibrant gathering place through public art, community events, free Wi-Fi, seasonal amenities, local business partnerships, and ongoing improvements funded through grants, sponsorships, and volunteer support. The award celebrates not only the physical improvements to the space but also the community connections and economic activity generated through its activation.

Community Art: Student Mural Project

In 2026, Heritage Court became home to a new mural created by students from Colville Junior High School under the leadership of art teacher Amy Anderson. Made possible through support from the Innovia Foundation, the project provided students with a unique opportunity to contribute directly to their community while gaining hands-on experience in public art. Over the course of a week, students worked together to bring the mural to life, transforming a blank wall into a colorful and lasting addition to downtown Colville.

The mural reflects the creativity, pride, and talent of local youth while reinforcing Heritage Court’s role as a community gathering place that celebrates art, culture, and local identity. Beyond beautifying the space, the project allowed students to leave a lasting mark on their hometown and demonstrated how public art can inspire community connection across generations.

Heritage Court continues to evolve as Colville’s downtown gathering place. From 4th Friday celebrations and live music to public art, seasonal decorations, and everyday conversations between neighbors, Heritage Court reflects the power of community collaboration and investment. It is a space created by the community, for the community, and a reminder that small improvements can have a lasting impact on downtown vitality.
